Dori J. Bower

Founder and Executive Director of 

Dartmoor School

Dori Bower. B.S, M.S, Ed.S, was a reading specialist, who founded Dartmoor School in 1990.  As the Executive Director, she established and maintained the academic excellence for which Dartmoor is known.

Dori earned a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.), a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction (M.S.), and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree from St. Thomas University in St. Paul Minnesota.  She completed post-graduate work at the University of Washington.  Dori holds continuing certification for K-12 teaching and administration in the State of Washington.  She has completed additional studies in reading instruction and communication.

Dori was a member of the Association of Educational Therapists and was a Professional Educational Therapist.  In her lifetime, Dori earned over 150 professional education hours in learning theory, evaluation techniques, intervention strategies, attention issues, and learning differences.

Dori’s 15-year teaching experience included reading, learning disabilities, and special behavioral disorders.  She managed the design and development of educational software at Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium (MECC) in St. Paul, Minnesota.  She directed a federal grant at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, developing computer programs for learning-disabled students.  She also served as a consultant to Control Data Corporation, Northwest Regional Educational Lab, and the Lake Washington Public Schools.

Dori was a recipient of Apple’s Teacher Training Scholarship Program and the Murray Scholarship Program and was awarded The Best Microcomputer Software of the Year Award for educational software programs.  She conducted teacher training in numerous states on “How to Use Technology to Teach the School Curriculum.”

Dori served on education planning committees at the local, regional, and state level, published articles in education journals, made public appearances for Technology in Education, and was a member of numerous educational organizations. She served as an adjunct faculty member at Seattle Pacific University and City University in Seattle, WA.
